How a Montréal restaurant film reached 500K views: chef Jérôme Ferrer, a giant lobster and the Michelin man

Two short films for chef Jérôme Ferrer’s Europea in Montréal reached more than 500,000 views together. Both were shot on a phone inside the real restaurant, then built in 3D. Here is what the films are, why a dining room is a good place for a FOOH-style idea, and how a restaurant can use the same recipe.

The two films

The lobster film. A waiter carries a platter through the dining room. On it, a giant lobster comes alive in front of the guests and the staff. We filmed the real room and the real people, then built the lobster in 3D and composited it so it sits in the room’s own light. Watch it on the lobster film page.

The Michelin man. Bibendum walks into the restaurant and stops the lobby, and the film ends on a top-down shot over the dining room. Same method: a phone clip of the real place, with a 3D character built, lit and composited into it. See the Michelin man film page.

Each film is under ten seconds, vertical, with sound on.

Why a dining room works

This is our view from making them, not a rule:

  • A room people know. Regulars recognise the space, so the impossible detail lands harder.
  • People who react. Staff and guests in the frame do the emotional work: viewers read the surprise from their faces.
  • One idea. A giant lobster, or the Michelin man. Nothing else competes with it.
  • Sound on. Footsteps, a gasp and a reveal sell the effect on a phone speaker.

The numbers

More than 500,000 views across the two films, as a rounded count across social posts. We design every film for attention, but views depend on the platform, the posting and the timing, so we do not promise them.

How a restaurant can use the same recipe

A new dish, an anniversary, a seasonal menu or a private-dining push can each be the “impossible thing”. You send us the idea and a phone clip of the room; we send back a concept, a storyboard and a fixed quote, and nothing is rendered until you approve it. A launch ad is $2,500 CAD in two days.
