12 Best FOOH Ad Examples and Why Each One Went Viral

Robot police officer — Sherbrooke Street

Fake out-of-home (FOOH) ads live or die on one idea. Here are twelve that worked, global and from our own studio, with the specific reason each one travelled. If you are new to the format, start with what FOOH is.

1. Maybelline Sky High mascara, London

Giant lashes on a Tube train and a double-decker bus, brushed by a passing mascara wand. Why it worked: the product’s one job, lengthening lashes, is the entire stunt. Nothing else to explain.

2. Jacquemus Le Bambino bags, Paris

Handbags the size of cars driving through Paris. Why it worked: the object is iconic enough to be recognised at any scale, and the city is the co-star.

3. The North Face, Big Ben

A landmark wearing the product. Why it worked: one edit of one famous silhouette. The joke reads in a thumbnail.

4. Mont-Royal street sweeper, Montréal

Our own: a giant robot vacuum clearing fall leaves on a residential street, about 30 million views with no media. Why it worked: an ordinary street, one impossible detail, sound design, and a payoff at the end. Case study.

5. Robot police officer, Sherbrooke Street

A humanoid officer patrolling a Montréal intersection, 600K views and 23K shares in a week. Why it worked: the “is this real?” question, plus a character people project stories onto. Watch.

6. Sports Experts on the mountain

A retail store dropped at the foot of a CGI ski slope, chairlift running, from one clip of the real parking lot. Why it worked: the brand’s promise (winter sports) becomes the building’s location. Watch.

7. Ritz-Carlton × F1 Grand Prix

The hotel wrapped in a red stage curtain with a gold sign, unveiled by a Formula 1 car. Why it worked: timing. Grand Prix week is the one weekend the whole city is thinking about racing. Watch.

8. F1 drivers under one umbrella

The drivers arriving downtown together, VFX on real Montréal footage, 465K organic views. Why it worked: a shared cultural moment and a light, human gag rather than a giant object. Watch.

9. FANABOX × Red Bull, Old Montréal

A miniature can that grows into the real thing on the Old Port. Why it worked: the transformation is the hook, and it happens in the first two seconds. Watch.

10. Mahrouse Patisserie holiday takeover

A snow globe of baklava lands on the store roof and the building wraps itself for the season. Why it worked: a small business, a big gesture, and a reason to visit that week. Watch.

11. Mr FP, the orthodontist’s robot

A CGI robot assistant in a real treatment room, posted by the clinic itself, 1,800 likes from patients. Why it worked: character comedy inside a trusted, real place. Watch.

12. Montréal Métro maintenance crew

Robots servicing a real station, 420K views. Why it worked: a public space everyone uses, and a premise the city half-wishes were true. Watch.

The pattern

Every example has a real place, one impossible thing, and a reason to watch to the end. The big brands add fame. The small brands add timing and locality. Both work. If you have a product and a place, we can build the third part: FOOH and CGI ads from $2,500 CAD, or send a brief.
